To facilitate easy onboarding, earn yield while avoiding price volatility, tokenize real world assets (RWA), as well as transact on-chain with local currency payments, savings, and remittances, Afreum has tokenized fiat currencies for every country. You can MINT fiat tokens with Circle USDC, and REDEEM fiat tokens for Circle USDC at current exchange rates at any time. The underlying tokens on the blockchain are in the format S (for stable) plus the three-letter currency code. E.g. the underlying token for Nigerian Naira or NGN (₦) is SNGN. USDC reserves are held in a public Reserve Wallet and are never used for anything except Fiat Token minting and redemption. This mechanism allows individuals, businesses, and organizations to easily on-ramp and off-ramp into the Afreum ecosystem

Minting Fiat Tokens with USDC involves creating a 24 HOUR USDC claimable balance. When the Fiat Token, is sent to your address, the USDC claimable balance is claimed to the Afreum Fiat Reserve Address.

Redeeming Fiat Tokens for USDC involves creating a 24 HOUR Fiat Token claimable balance. When the USDC, is sent to your address, the Fiat Token claimable balance is burned to the Issuer Address.

Fiat Tokens have Clawback Enabled as a security measure to prevent fraud or to rebalance reserves when a fiat currency is revalued by a country. In fiat currency revaluation clawback scenarios, USDC is returned to address at the last valid rate at which the Fiat Tokens were minted by the holding account, or the last rate before the currency revaluation.

Fees may apply to Mint and Redeem transactions. Generally such fees are charged in USDC.

You should check exchange rates with external sources before using Afreum Fiat. While the developers have taken appropriate measures to minimize risks relating to Exchange Rate quotes, smart contracts, and Web 3 applications, the developers, and any individuals or entities associated with the Afreum project, shall be indemnified and held harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, or liabilities arising out of or related to the use of the project, its services, or any associated transactions, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

As of Afreum Fiat 3.0, mints and redemptions now use a CLAIMABLE BALANCE feature. Re-Claim USDC (including any fees), or redeemed tokens, if fiat or tokens not received after 24 HOURS. We have also introduced fiat token liquidity pools as decentralized minting/redemption options.
